Teaching the Protected Characteristics and Equality Act 2010
At John Gulson Primary School, we are committed to educating and empowering our children. One of the many ways we do this, is by teaching them about the protected characteristics and the Equality Act 2010. We want our children to be prepared for their future lives in 21st century Britain.
All classes have twice weekly lessons about the protected characteristics at an age appropriate level. We do this via a text-based approach; sharing stories with our children to promote dialogue, questions and thoughtful responses. We capture these sessions via our RHE 'floor books' and capture additional evidence on our Grid Maker tool, making explicit links to SMSC, British Values, School Values, as well as the wider curriculum.
