Below, you will find our admissions documents for Nursery as well as our general Admissions policy (Years R-6).

Nursery Admissions

At John Gulson we have a morning Nursery for children who are three years old. We have three intakes per year- in September, January and April. 

To apply for a nursery place, please feel free to contact our school office for more information and to receive a form.

 September 2025 Admissions to Reception

Entry to Reception from September 2025

This is for children born between 1 September 2020 and 31 August 2021

 

Applications can be made from: 1 September 2024

Closing date: 15 January 2025

How parents should apply:

The school admissions website is: www.coventry.gov.uk/schooladmissions

Parents are encouraged to apply online via the Coventry Education Services Portal at www.coventry.gov.uk/schoolplaces

The service will be available from September 2024 until the closing date of 15 January 2025. Parents can view/download the “Primary Education in Coventry 2025” booklet and find details of schools on the website.

Allocation Letters

On 16 April 2025.  parents who made an application on time will be notified of the primary school place their child has been allocated. Emails will be sent to those parents who have applied on-line. Parents who submitted a paper application will receive notification by letter, this will be sent via second class post on 16 April 2025. Both will contain the following information:

  • The name of the school at which a place is offered:

  • Information about their statutory right of appeal against decisions to refuse places at the other nominated schools.

  • Contact details for applicants to lodge an appeal when they have not been offered a place at a school.

September 2025 Secondary Admissions

 If your child is in Year 6 and you would like support in applying for secondary school places, please contact the Year 6 teachers, Mr Shebl or the Headteacher. You can also follow the link below to Coventry City Councils guidance:

Entry to Year 7 from September 2025

This covers primary to secondary school transfers. Applications can be made from: 1 September 2024

Closing date: 31 October 2024

How parents should apply:

Coventry parents are encouraged to apply online via the Coventry Education Services Portal at www.coventry.gov.uk/schoolplaces

 

The service will be available from 1 September 2024 until the closing date of 31 October 2024. Parents can view/download the “Secondary Education in Coventry 2025” booklet and find details of schools on the website: www.coventry.gov.uk/schooladmissions
Pre-printed copies are not available.

 

Allocation letters and acceptance of places

On 3 March 2025 parents who made an application on time will be notified of the secondary school place their child has been allocated. Emails will be sent to those parents who have applied on-line by 5pm. Parents who submitted a paper application will receive notification confirming the outcome by 6 March 2025 by letter or email. Both will contain the following information:

  • The name of the school at which a place is offered:

  • Information about their statutory right of appeal against decisions to refuse places at the other nominated schools.

  • Contact details for applicants to lodge an appeal when they have not been offered a place at a school.

Please note, that school cannot give out the details of the secondary school that has been allocated. This information can only come from the Local Authority.
