Thank you for your continued support. As you may be aware, yesterday we received the news of school closures. We are now very busy trying to prepare and respond to this news.
We will communicate with you via the school website https://www.johngulson.coventry.sch.uk/ , so please keep checking for updates. We will also be using text message communication when appropriate so please ensure your mobile phone numbers are up to date with the office.
Staff have been working hard in school to create learning packs for the children in each year group and these are going to be provided for your child today. We are also building an online learning platform which will go live very soon with work for each year group to access. This will be on the school website and updated regularly These measures cannot replace face to face teaching but will allow the children to keep their brains active and busy whilst they are not at school and hopefully provide them with some structure to their days. Each child will be given an A4 exercise book to bring home which they can complete the work in. Some activities will be online and others will be tasks to be copied into their books.
So far our understanding is that, to begin with, all schools will remain open for children of key workers, vulnerable children and those with EHC Plans. We do not yet have a definitive list of which jobs qualify as ‘key’ but have been promised this imminently from the Government. Once this is established, we will be sending you some communication which we would like a prompt response to so that we can start to get an idea of how many children may still be accessing school. Please look out for this.
Our role will primarily be to provide care and not education for these children so we will be planning a range of activities for them to take part in as well as allowing them to access the work packs on the website so they have the same opportunities as those children staying at home.
I hope this all makes sense, we will continue to communicate with you regularly throughout this challenging time.
Please stay safe and look after one another at this unusual time,
Mr Stewart Price
