Today we celebrated all things reading! The children looked amazing in their pyjamas and brought in their favourite books to share with their classmates.
During our special World Book Day assemblies we talked about the exciting things that were going to happen throughout the day, but we also took a moment to reflect on why we celebrate books and reading. We decided that while reading gave us lots of important life skills, the most important benefit of reading was that it opened up our imaginations and that it was fun!
Throughout the day children took part in lots of different activities, including upgrading their reading corners with new and exciting work. Year Five had a visit from Author Amanda Malben, who also officially opened our brand new library. Classes also received a special visit from their previous teacher, who came to share one of their favourite books with the classes.
To top the day off, we launched our Sponsored Read in conjunction with Usborne Books. The children will be getting sponsored to read for as long as they can throughout the next week to raise money, which will be invested in books for our new library. Once the week has finished, we will be totaling the minutes for each class and prizes will be awarded to the individuals and classes who have read the most. Teachers will be talking to their children to get ideas for exciting new books they would like to see once the fundraising has finished.
Well done to all the children for all the hard work they have done today and most importantly – KEEP READING!
