On Thursday night the annual Staff v Pupils football match took place on the school playing fields. The game began with the Staff very much in control and playing some fast flowing football. Only a number of excellent saves by Muaaz prevented the staff from taking a big lead. Despite his best efforts Muaaz was eventually beaten by a 25 metre scorcher from Mr Price and a heavy defeat looked on the cards. The boys then began to get back into the game with some excellent football which resulted in 2 fantastic individual goals from Namo and Abdullah K. As the half time whistle blew the staff were looking a beaten team despite the bright start.
As Mr Shebl blew the whistle for the second half, the staff again began very strongly and before long Mr Mander and Mr Stephenson showed some exquisite skills to make the score 3-2 to the staff. Both took their goals brilliantly to put the staff back on top. As the game wore on the boys tried very hard to break down the staff but some very tough defending from Mr and Mrs Tierman, Mr Nash and the veteran Mr Watson kept the boys at bay until in the final seconds of the match in injury time the boys equalised with an excellent move that left Mr Sweatman grasping the air as the ball flew past him into the net from close range. In the final seconds the staff came close again as Lewis (the school ICT technician) showed some fancy footwork but was again thwarted by the excellent Muaaz.
The game ended in a very entertaining 3-3 draw with the match being played in an excellent spirit. Very well done to the boys and staff for putting on such an excellent spectacle. Roll on next year!
