Recounts – Starting Year 5

I thought year 5 was going to be scary, because there were new teachers and new things to learn. (Ayrin)

On the first day we were reunited with all our friends. The classroom was painted all white. We had a brilliant morning working on our dream bedroom. We had £1000 to spend. We cut out pictures from the Argos catalogue. We purchased things such as a bed a laptop and an amazing TV. (Tracy and Farjana)

Then we cut out the furniture carefully, for a boarder. Once the paper was cut out everyone had A3 paper and stuck the furniture on our dream bedroom sheet. (Mahida, Farah and Aysha)

It was exciting. We made name cards to help our teacher to learn our names, and bookmarks for ourselves. (Muna and Farida)

In the afternoon we did our spelling test. For the last few words of the test Mr Geddes put a Rubix cube on his head so we could remember the conversation we’d had. (Tracy and Farjana)

We also played to game called ‘the web’ and ‘two facts and a lie’. (Muna and Farida)

We have also started our class story, about a boy called ‘Billy the Kid’. When Billy was little his dad bought him a football from France. He played for Chelsea and his friend Ozzie said “the only way to watch football is to earn your money” cleaning boots. Billy started to go to Chelsea to clean boots and watch the game. Soon he was allowed to play for Chelsea FC! He stopped playing for Chelsea when his brother died in the war. Billy then got very angry, and decided to go to war in Germany. (Sozear and Mahmood)

Now Mr Geddes has told us a website that we could use to work on and we have enjoyed it. We are looking forward to the rest of the year! (Yahya and Wasim)

Impressions of Me

It’s the start of a new year, and 5AG are already hard at work. We’ve been talking about ‘impressions’, and how you can give a good impression of yourself by doing just a few simple things! Here are some examples we thought of today:

  • Be positive by trying something even if it’s tricky or new
  • Be respectful by treating everyone as an equal
  • Be generous by giving gifts or offering your time to help someone
  • Be polite by using ‘please’ and ‘thank you’
  • Be helpful by picking things up that others have dropped
  • Be reliable by doing what you say you will do
  • Be faithful by sticking with your friends even if you have an argument
  • Be sociable by welcoming new children to the school

Slowly, Theseus and the prisoners swaggered through the island of Crete. The king’s charming daughter, Ariadne, whispered to Theseus ‘I will help you’. She thought her father was very cruel. She gave Theseus a ball of long string and a dagger to kill the filthy minotaur. Theseus unwound the long strong. Theseus crept through the enormous labyrinth. Theseus spotted the four headed minotaur. Theseus quickly got into a hiding place and started to shoot the minotaur on the head. Suddenly, the heads started growing each time Theseus shot the minotaur! Suddenly Theseus got a fantastic idea. Theseus climbed quickly to the top of a 50 foot tall mansion and started to shoot the fearsome minotaur. It missed. Finally, Theseus got his rocket launcher and shot the minotaur and the minotaur slowly and eventually struck the disgusting ground.

Warwick Castle Trip

On Monday 11th July, Year 5 visited Warwick Castle for our end of year school trip. We had a fantastic time watching archers, birds of prey, trebuchet catapults and much more. We also got very tired legs climbing the ramparts – it was 530 steps! Here are some pictures from the day.
